Power Rangers Lightning Catalog

Publication

Solution

With over 25 years of being on the TV, screen it was important to showcase the strength and power of the all the different rangers we have watched as kids growing up. By playing with scale and proximity the catalog was able to show off the different poses and action ability of the ranger figures. Using the ranger and villains at different scale allowed for the creation of dynamic compositions from page to page. A square format and grid were created to lend itself to the brand’s use of lifestyle square photography of the rangers. Creating a square catalog enhanced the use of photography and personality of the brand. The halftones were used to reference the power ranger’s comic book series and gave each page a sense of flow and action.

Flatplan

Creating a flatplan of all intended pages guided the digitalization and iteration process. Throughout the process two extras spreads were added to showcase two of the selling points for the action figures. The final printed catalog was comprised of 24 pages, cover to cover.

Layout Sketches

Twenty-four layout sketches were created for potential placement ideas of elements and products. Sketches were used to showcase the different rangers and villains in the way to bring out a nostalgic feeling and to show the fun ways to play or display.

Skeleton Spread

A skeleton spread was created to showcase the use of typography choices and page elements. The used of the skeleton spread set up a blue print for the layout from page to page. This includes the placement of photos, the use of type-setting choices and other elements related to the rangers and the TV show. The skeleton also showcases the implementation of the brand’s lightning bolt mark used as a folio.
